Project: UG2 Debottlenecking Project EPCM
Project Value: R 265 million
Project Status: Completed 2013
The project scope consisted of upgrading Lonmin’s existing 1# UG2 concentrator located near Marikana to a 130 ktpm operation from the original 80 ktpm plant. As part of the de-bottlenecking of the plant a new ROM tip suitable for the dumping of ROM material from side and rear tipping trucks was constructed. The ore is then conveyed by belt conveyor to the existing course ore silos. The course ore reports to a new 2.5 MW ROM Ball mill, installed as a primary mill in the circuit via a system of conveyors. A new slurry classification building, and all ancillary screens, tanks and pumps was installed downstream from the mills to feed the existing flotation circuit. The existing flotation circuit was upgraded by installing additional flotation capacity and splitting the slurry feed into two separate process streams.
